WELL Labs
Public data on water resources are collected across Karnataka each year, but much of it stays underused. India Research Corps (IRC), a WELL Labs initiative, invites students and early-career researchers to a one-day data hackathon that puts this public data to work on questions that can help water resource management in the state.
Participants will work in teams on real datasets from the Karnataka Water Resources Information System portal (K-WRIS) covering rainfall, reservoir levels, groundwater, and other variables to develop analyses that could support better decisions around water availability, allocation, and planning in Karnataka. The day-long event includes a problem briefing, hands-on analysis time, and presentations to a panel, with outputs intended for direct use by the Advanced Centre for Integrated Water Resources Management (ACIWRM), Government of Karnataka.
Open to students, fresh postgraduates, and early-career researchers with an interest in data analysis, water, or public policy. Curiosity and comfort working with data required; prior water-sector experience will help, but is not mandatory. This will be an in-person event conducted in Bengaluru; virtual participation will not be possible.
A pre-event online briefing will be conducted on Oct 16 to cover the datasets and other event information. Registrations open now.
